Columbia Road flower market

Columbia Road flower market is quite possibly my favourite London market. The incredible plants and flowers on display is just a fantastic visual feast, and for an artist that loves gardening, it's a pretty perfect place!

Located in East London, between Bethnal Green and Old Street tube stations, as you head towards the market, you start to see people carrying armfuls of flowers all wrapped up in brown paper. Held on Sundays, from 8am to around 3pm - traders generally start to pack up from about 2.30pm onwards. Go early if you want the most choice - go late and grab a bargain, but be warned - it will be chaotic! The traders banter, the crowds and the stunning plants make for a lovely bustling atmosphere. I expected all kinds of cut flowers to be on sale, but you can also pick up potted plants - even palms!

Around the street itself are cute little independant stores, cafes and pubs, making it a great place to spend your day. Whether you're looking to stock up your garden, for flowers for the house or just for some inspiration, it's a challenge to walk away empty handed!
