The Story

The lovely Fiona, of Fiona Brass Interiors, got in touch about creating a coastal-inspired art print for her client’s home. They felt the colours in my Bridges Over The Tyne print (heavily influenced by The Little Greene Paint Company’s range of blues) would be perfect for the room it was to go in. Her client loved the North Cornish coast in particular, from the old tin mines to Bedruthan Steps.

The Process

I researched the area, creating sketches inspired by different parts of the coast. I felt that the rocky nature of the coast, such as that around Bedruthan steps, would create some beautiful, striking shapes for the print. With every commission I provide a mini-printed proof during the design stage, enabling you to get a true representation of the colours. In this instance, I created two colour options for Fiona’s client, varying the balance of blues, teals and pinks.

The Details

To add to the sense of drama of the striking shapes, I varied how the stripes flowed in the details of the rocks. Using a painted canvas for the background stripes created extra depth, which you can just see creeping in.
