The Crossing in King’s Cross is one of my favourite event venues. The venue itself is spacious and airy and flooded with natural light. You’re sheltered from any rain, and it is surrounded by so many places to choose from for food and drink.
I usually take part in 3-4 events there a year with Illustrators’ Fair and Crafty Fox Market, and my next event is just around the corner: Sunday 13 July 2025, 11am - 5pm with Crafty Fox Market. Here’s my perfect day in the area as a visitor.
Location: Granary Square, King’s Cross, London N1C 4AA
Where to begin
Around Granary Square
Start your day with breakfast or brunch at Dishoom. You can make reservations (I would recommend this to avoid any queues!) and there’s something for everyone on the menu. Full of flavour, it’ll give you just the energy you need for your day ahead!
Head over to The Crossing to browse the designer maker market. Whether it’s Illustrators Fair or Crafty Fox hosting, you’ll find over 100 designer makers all under one roof! Illustrators’ Fair is a specialist event, a great opportunity to pick up zines, children’s books, art prints and cards. Crafty Fox is a curated mix of everything from jewellery to wellness, ceramics to fashion, art and homeware.
Time for a coffee break
Allow plenty of time for shopping the market - there’s a lot to discover and I recommend doing a couple of rounds with a coffee break in between. Caravan is always a popular choice, especially with its location right next to the market, and Wildcard is relatively new.
Come back after coffee for another round of shopping at the market. These events are perfect for finding thoughtful gifts that make family and friends feel really special and loved. And if you’re shopping for your home, you’ll find one-of-a-kind pieces that you really can’t get anywhere else. Meeting the makers themselves, hearing about their processes from contemporary to traditional ways of working, swapping stories - there is nothing like that connection, a connection that will last way beyond your time at the stall!
Unwind and relax
Camley Street
When you’ve finished shopping, take a stroll along the Regent's Canal. Pop into one of the quirkiest bookshops I've come across in Word on the Water for a beautiful selection of books. Grab some ice-cream from Ruby Violet (they have a truck as well as a shop) or After School Cookie Club (a truck) and unwind in some of the gorgeous green spaces, such as Gasholder Park or Camley Street Natural Park. Camley Street, run by the London Wildlife Trust, will make you forget you are in Central London at all. It is such a beautiful spot, and you’ll feel immediately restored.

For a bigger meal
And finally finish off with lunch or dinner at one of these: Hoppers for sit-down restaurant dining that feels special (especially if you haven’t started your day at Dishoom, this Sri Lankan / South Indian place), street food of all kinds of cuisines at Canopy Market - I can highly recommend The Rice Guys. You’ll find me at Beer & Burger after any event day with Mr R - it’s been our tradition for years! And if you’re there in the evening, Supermax is the perfect speakeasy cocktail bar, especially for audiophiles.
