A short ferry ride from the Toronto harbour, the islands are stunning. The views alone of Lake Ontario (you get a feel for just how vast it is, more like an ocean!) and the city skyline from so many different points are just one reason to go; lovely unspoilt, sandy beaches another.
A giant stretch of parks, with very few vehicles, the islands are home to about 700 residents, a police and fire station. Beaches seem to stretch all along one side of the three interlinking islands, and with sand dunes, mini lakes and wildlife, it's a wonderfully scenic day out. We walked in a loop around the islands, stopping every so often for a rest and to drink in the incredible views. Our highlights were the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, the boardwalks and soft sandy beaches.
