This print is quite possibly my favourite piece from my series launching at the end of September. I relished bringing a new level of detail to my prints, creating layer upon layer of striking shapes and colour.
The location: Boston Public Garden
Established in 1837, Boston Public Garden was the first public botanical garden in the US. The inspiration for the print came from spending a beautiful Spring morning in the park. The trees were covered in pink and white blossom and along the grass were patches of tulips of every colour, in stunning colour combinations. If you’re there in season (mid-April to Labor Day in September, weather permitting) I highly recommend a relaxing ride around the lagoon on the famous Swan Boats. Still operated by a generation of the family that started it in the 1870s, the boats were designated a Boston landmark in 2011.
Creating the print
I experimented with creating different shapes and patterns to mimic the feel of trees covered with blossom. Combined with the textures of the canvas background and the paper of the print itself, the result is an incredibly rich piece, full of depth.
Whilst most of the detailing is in the trees, I had to of course include a swan boat in the print!
