A Corgi art trail to mark the Platinum Jubilee

Commissioned by BIDs in Central London - Victoria, Victoria Westminster, Whitehall and the Northbank - to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 by celebrating her love of Corgis.

A colourful art installation full of meaning

Designed to entertain and engage both Londoners and visitors, the art trail took you through well-known locations, such as stations and public spaces, as well as hidden gems.
I was one of 19 local artists chosen to paint a giant Corgi for the trail. Answering the brief of a playful way to mark the Jubilee, I wanted to create a colourful, travel-inspired piece that would be full of meaning.

I researched Her Majesty’s travels and outfits from each decade, sketching out a jacket for my Corgi. I divided the jacket into seven stripes, one for each decade of The Queen’s reign. Each decade contained references to places The Queen had visited during that period, and the colours were picked from outfits from the relevant time too. To ensure harmony, I had an overall palette of seven colours that were repeated across the Corgi’s collar, tail and jacket.
